The region

Wine has been one of the most important cultural assets in the canton of Vaud for over 1,000 years. Here, in the home of the Chasselas grape, twice as much white wine as red wine is produced. The wine-growing area on the northern shore of Lake Geneva comprises three regions: In Chablais, stony soils and the influence of the föhn wind produce aromatic, lively and powerful wines. In the very warm Lavaux region, the wines are floral, fruity and concentrated, with a smooth, rounded texture. La Côte, between the two, benefits from the protection of the Jura range and the moderating influence of the lake, producing wines of great finesse on the gravelly soils near the shore.
