About Le Marchesine

The vineyards of Azienda Le Marchesine, not far from Brescia, cover 27 hectares, most of them planted with Chardonnay and Pinot grapes. The Franciacorta DOCG area is dedicated to producing sparkling wines using the original Champagne method, and Azienda Le Marchesine is one of its most outstanding producers. The Biatta family, who own the estate, continually invest in new technologies to refine the quality of Italian sparkling wine production. Their many years of oenological experience in Champagne winemaking ensure that Le Marchesine’s Franciacorta is now exported not only to the United States and many EU countries, but also to Champagne’s home country itself.

The Region

Lombardy lies in Italy’s far north. The region, whose capital is Milan, is Italy’s industrial center—but also an important wine-growing region. Its landscape is shaped by the Po Valley in the center and the major Italian lakes: Lago Maggiore, Lake Garda, Lake Lugano, Lake Como, and Lake Iseo. While the valley, with its hot summers, cold winters, and high humidity, is not ideal for winegrowing, the wine-growing areas around the lakes are a small natural wonder. This is due in particular to the climatic conditions: the Alps protect the area from cool northerly winds, while the lakes have a beneficial effect on the microclimate, which in some places takes on Mediterranean characteristics. The calcareous clay and sandy soils formed from glacial deposits, together with this climate, provide ideal conditions for quality wines, allowing Lombardy to present excellent, elegant wines year after year.
