Jack Daniel's is the superstar among the whiskey brands in terms of awareness. No other whiskey company probably makes as much revenue from merchandising as the company from Lynchburg, Tennessee. Born in 1846, Jasper Newton Daniel (known to most as Jack Daniel) is said to have learned the craft of whiskey distilling as a young child. In 1860, at only 14 years old, he took over the distillery where he worked. In 1886, the distillery was licensed, making it the oldest registered distillery in the United States.
