About Ciacci Piccolomini
In the hamlet of Castelnuovo del Abate in the province of Siena, Paolo Bianchini, a member of the owner family, runs Ciacci Piccolomini. Among Bianchini’s illustrious ancestors were popes and kings; the family has been devoted to the Brunello tradition since the 18th century. The vines grow in stony soil on the slope leading down to the Orcia River, whose surrounding hills create a particularly mild microclimate. The goal of producing valuable, healthy grapes in the vineyard is achieved by combining tradition with the latest technology, making the wines both modern and timeless.
The Region
Tuscany is probably Italy’s most famous wine-growing region, alongside Piedmont. The Etruscans cultivated vines there long before the Romans, making it one of Europe’s oldest wine-growing regions. Tuscany is known primarily—and with justifiable pride—for its world-famous Chianti and Brunello. In fact, however, Tuscany is Italy’s largest producer of top-quality wines. Blessed with plenty of sunshine, cooled by sometimes strong sea breezes and still receiving enough rain, Tuscan vines produce outstanding wines in poor limestone, clay and sandstone soils, as well as various combinations of these, earning acclaim from wine lovers around the world.
