Many beer connoisseurs consider the premium Lager Budweiser Budvar Original the best Czech beer ever. The traditional beer brewed by the state-owned BUDejovický PivoVAR (Budweiser brewery, 1.2 million hectoliters of annual production) in the South Bohemian town of Budweis (Ceské Budejovice) with its 100,000 inhabitants is produced using Saaz hops, Moravian malt and deep spring water. The unusually long storage time of 90 days is partly responsible for the soft and delicate taste of this beer.

The light golden Budweiser beer with its moderately developed head has a wort content of 11.9% and an alcohol content of 5%. The emphatically tasty Edellagerbier has a slightly smoky aroma and a long finish. For some inveterate Pilsener purists the Budweiser Budvar Original should be too mild. On the other hand, Budweiser beer in Germany, where Czech beer has an excellent reputation, is particularly popular among beer connoisseurs because of its elegant mildness, which is relatively low in carbonic acid.
