About Bodegas Arzuaga

Following his love for wine, Florentino Arzuaga acquired the unique La Planta estate in Quintanilla de Onésimo in 1982. Located on the Golden Mile of the Ribera del Duero, where most of the well-known wineries are situated, the beautiful estate sits enthroned on the hill of the Páramo. Due to the diverse flora and lush forests, the 150 hectares of vineyards enjoy a balanced climate and optimal growing conditions. Sunny days and cool nights allow primarily high-quality Tempranillo grapes to ripen here. Cultivated with great care, complex, concentrated, and dense wines are created in the unique style of the Ribera del Duero terroir.

The Region

Castilla y León encompasses the northern half of the great central Spanish plateau. It extends from the center of Spain almost to the north coast; the vineyards are located at 700 to 1000 m above sea level. Despite its proximity to the Atlantic, the climate is continental, with hot, dry summers, icy winters, and significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. Because there is also very little rainfall, the soils are nutrient-poor – except near the region's numerous rivers, the most famous of which is the Duero, where significantly more minerals and clay can be found.
