About Bodegas Arzuaga

Following his passion for wine, Florentino Arzuaga acquired the unique La Planta winery in Quintanilla de Onésimo in 1982. Situated in Ribera del Duero’s Golden Mile, where most of the region’s renowned wineries are located, the beautiful estate sits on the Paramo hill. The diverse flora and lush forests create a balanced climate and optimal growing conditions across the 150-hectare vineyards. Sunny days and cool nights allow the predominantly Tempranillo grapes to ripen to the highest quality. Cultivated with great care, they produce complex, concentrated and full-bodied wines in the unique style of the Ribera del Duero terroir.

The Region

Castilla León comprises the northern half of Spain’s vast central plateau. It extends from central Spain almost to the northern coast, with vineyards situated at elevations of 700 to 1,000 metres. Despite its proximity to the Atlantic, the climate is continental, with hot, dry summers, icy winters and significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. Low rainfall also means the soils are nutrient-poor, except near the region’s many rivers, the most famous of which is the Duero, where significantly more minerals and clay can be found.
