About Bioweingut Lenz
The biodynamic winery has been owned by Roland and Karin Lenz since 1994. Located in the idyllic Iselisberg in the canton of Thurgau, it covers 27 hectares and is one of Switzerland's largest Demeter wineries. Alongside various nut and fruit trees, cereals such as spelt, buckwheat and oats, and wild herbs, they cultivate 22 hectares of established vineyards together with their team. The family-run business deliberately focuses on sustainable, mildew-resistant grape varieties that can fully ripen in the local microclimate, as only optimally ripe and healthy grapes are processed at the energy-autonomous organic winery.
The Region
Favoured by the Foehn wind: In the pre-Alpine eastern part of the country along the Rhine, there are many vineyards, many of which are only a few hectares in size. Eastern Swiss winemakers primarily produce red wines almost exclusively from the demanding Pinot Noir grape. In addition, white Riesling and many other varieties also thrive in Eastern Switzerland. Thanks to frequent Foehn conditions and the invigorating moisture from rivers and lakes, exceptionally high-quality wines that are popular beyond national borders are produced.
