About Belle Vallée

Valais, the cradle of Swiss viticulture, impresses with its terroir and unique, sun-drenched climate. The vines thrive in optimal locations on terraces. For Belle Vallée, the renowned winemaker Jean-René Germanier works exclusively with the grape varieties that flourish here. This experienced expert, deeply rooted in the region, knows the characteristics of every variety. He lets himself be inspired by the terroir and refines the local autochthonous grapes into distinctive, characterful wines.

The Region

More than a third of Switzerland's total wine production comes from the driest canton in Switzerland, Valais. The vines, which grow on steep slopes from 375 m above sea level up to 1,100 metres, benefit from an exceptional climate with enormous temperature differences between day and night, hot, dry summers, and plenty of foehn wind in autumn, as well as the protection of the surrounding Alps. On the small, mostly terraced plots with highly varied soils, manual labour is the rule. In addition to the cultivation of the main grape varieties Pinot Noir, Chasselas (Fendant) and Gamay, Valais is distinguished by the careful cultivation of many old and autochthonous grape varieties such as Humagne Rouge, Cornalin and Heida.
