About Angelo Delea
Delea’s extensive range reflects the full diversity of Ticino: wine lovers will find the warmth and joie de vivre of Switzerland’s southernmost canton in Delea wines. Former restaurateur Angelo Delea fell in love with the world of wine in Bordeaux, where he laid the foundations for Vini & Distillati Delea. Today, his sons Davide and Cesare run the company, delighting wine lovers with a wonderful range of wines, from easy-drinking Merlot to the premium wines of the Carato line.
The region
Ticino is Switzerland’s southernmost canton, and its climate, with the highest summer temperatures in the country, makes it ideal for viticulture. The Bordeaux grape Merlot is cultivated in over 80 percent of the nine districts of Bellinzona, Blenio, Leventina, Locarno, Mendrisio, Riviera, Vallemaggia and Mesolcina. Due to the region’s alpine topography, vineyards are scattered across small plots on mountain slopes, where a thin layer of soil covers a granite subsoil. Nowhere else in Switzerland is the density of quality winemakers and wines higher, which is why a system similar to the Italian DOC was introduced in 1997. The full-bodied, aromatic red wines, which also age well, are among the best in Switzerland and are of international calibre.
