Brumont has succeeded in taming this highly tannic, strongly astringent variety in the finest plots of the terroir: at Montus, with its stony, steep south-facing slopes; on the Boucassé plateaus, with their ironstone and manganese soils; and in Gascony, with its limestone bedrock. He carefully vinifies it in new barriques to produce approachable, restrained and exceptionally long-lived wines with rich fruit.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eThe Region\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe Sud-Ouest region encompasses the wine-growing areas of southwestern France, with the exception of Bordeaux and Cognac.
